I didn't meet Jackie until our senior year when we shared Ms. Harvey's Dramatics class, though I had been a student at Lakeview since September 1963, at the start of our class's sophomore year. I was rather shy throughout my school years. Thus I was acquainted with peers largely because of shared classes. Still. I liked Jackie from that first day of senior year. (Classmates: That was Tuesday, September 7, 1965) Following the end of senior year in Spring 1966, I didn't see her again until a weekday afternoon in October 1968 when I stopped into the now defunct "Date Bar" on SW Capital Avenue for lunch. Jackie was then temporarily working as a server in the restaurant to earn extra money before resuming her college schooling. We updated each other about our lives as much as her work load permitted. During her months at the Date Bar, a cook's younger brother would come in in hope of winning Jackie's affection- he couldn't be faulted for that. But the interest wasn't reciprocated as it's very likely she already had a boyfriend. I didn't see her after her employment at the Capital Avenue Restaurant, which was across that street from Dale Crosby's Real Estate office. Mr. Crosby would come into the restaurant for lunch and to visit briefly with Jackie. So sad that she has passed away. But if I may, I assert she is up in Heaven; reunited with classmates and reminiscing about the days at Lakeview High.
