Jim was a contributor on a record setting butterfly relay at the Cereal Bowl.

He had the coolest car in our class, with acknowlegements to Bob Virkus.  That woody jeep that popped wheelies in the LHS parking lot was in a class by itself.

Direct communicator.  Jim always said it straight.  Classmates (and teachers) never had to guess where they stood.

Roomed with Bill Aten at CMU and became a distinguished greens keeper.

Jim and I were in 9th Grade Shop class together.  For my big project I was going to make a little hand-held fireplace bellows.  When Jim found out he laughed his head off and nick-named me "Bellows".  That name never caught on, except for Jim, who would yell it out whenever he saw me.  "Hey, Bellows!!"  Then he'd start laughing all over again.  He did like to laugh.

Yeah, Jim was a great guy. He was definitely a fun guy to hang with ... popping those wheelies in his Willys jeep, riding in that Mustang Mach 1, water skiing on Goguac Lake. But what I remember most was that funny little laugh of his (heh, heh, heh), especially when he was scheming something. We'd go up to his family cabin near Kalkaska, drink lots of beer and do crazy-stupid things. I'm surprised we survived some of them. One time Jim decided it would be fun to shoot off 22 bullets by hitting them with a hammer. After he got hit with a little shrapnel we decided it wasn't such a good idea after all. I'm glad I got to spend a little time with him again when he came in for the 40th(?) reunion shortly before his passing. We lost a good guy.

Bruce, Jim was at our 40th reunion. I conversed with him shortly before our class get together ended on the night of Saturday, August 5, 2006. I was surprised to learn of his passing. He and I met when we were fifth graders in a boy scout troop sponsored by St. Joseph's Catholic School. During senior year, we shared English class. It's only right that we speak well of those known to us who have passed. But Jim Church really was a great guy. Do you think he could be "doing wheelies" up there in Heaven?

Jimmy Church, with that great cabin up in the forest of Kalkaska, where we can drink beer by the caseload and make feature films to send off to Hollywood. The day after we unload 800 empty beer cans we find out the next door neighbor is the Kalkaska County Sheriff.....................Ouch!
