Mike and I were born on Jan. 24, 1948. Our mothers occupied the same room. kind of a special connection that Mike and I had talked about a couple of times. Rest in peace pardner.
We go back a long time, had many adventures, including getting caught by her grandmother while hiding in Karen Grzyska's bedroom, (but that's another story). Mike showed uop at my mom's funeral, and was running a chater boat out of Florida. That was the last time I saw him. So long friend.
So sorry to hear of Mike's passing. He was a really nice guy. Our senior year he used to loan me his Hinda 125CC cycle to drive to town with Ed Crane to visit the Air Force Recruiter. Some times we really went there. Mike had that infectious smile seemly all the time. He will be missed.
As I read these posts it makes me sad.......I remember Mike in my early years way before high school.......we played kick the can and he came to my 6th grade coke and record party, (that's what they called it then) where we played spin the bottle....I thought the world of him in those days......so sorry this happened to such a nice guy........peace be with you Michael Brown.
I didn't know Mike well but as others pointed out, he had a smile that made you like him immediately. We shared one art class together. There was a city-wide art contest in which I remember him winning a first place award, maybe even best of show. I was disappointed my peice didn't get recognized so I guess I could have been a little jealous, but he was the kind of guy that made you only feel glad for him. If I recall correctly he was also a darned good wrestler. I wish I had known him better. The world has lost one of the good ones.
Mike and I were stationed at Ford Island , Pearl Harbor at the same time. He was Army, I was Navy. Spent a few times sipping adult beverages at the island enlisted men's club. Good guy and a pretty good high school wrestler!
I met Mike back in September 1963 when he and I had fifth period gym class together. I liked him nearly beginning on that long ago afternoon when we became acquainted. We had just begun sophomore year and shared first period American History during the following school year. Perhaps this is a cliche, but surely is fact that our world would have been a much better place if more of its people were like Michael Brown. His passing is our loss but heaven's gain.
